There Is No One Like Our God

We shared the first song off of the Word project last Sunday and we are going to sing it again this Sunday.  We have been humbled by the great words of encouragement from our church. The song is entitled “No One Like Our God” and worships through the Book of Exodus.  You can hear some of the story behind the …

Intro to Hinduism

In teaching world religions, I often search for an effective resource to help communicate the complex.  Spending short amounts of time on world religions leaves people with often more questions than before. As I searched for videos for world religions so that others could see and hear the religion in action, the best resource I found was something that the …

Don’t Go to Church

When it comes to church involvement, you and I have a few options: Neglect.  Statistically, this option is the preferred choice of the majority of college students.  Only 20% of your college peers that were active in church during high school remain active in church during college.  The rest of your classmates are sleeping in indicating either church has nothing …

The Gospel & Foster Care

In recent weeks, I’ve been wading in even more concerning foster care.  Our city, state, and country are in desperate need of foster families.

The video above tells a story of a foster family with the gospel as the focus.

If you would desire more information on foster care, we hope you can join us for our Homes for Hope meeting.

Homes for Hope

There are 153 million orphans worldwide.  While that number is overwhelming, there is something you can do about one of them.

Your one life can change one life.

You are invited to attend a Homes for Hope information session which will educate and equip you about how you can help the orphans of this world.

On this evening, you will learn how you can help with:

  • International adoption
  • Domestic adoption
  • Sex trafficking victims
  • Foster care
  • Respite care
  • Financial support
  • Group home support

Please plan to attend.  This night will be a great introduction for many and a tangible list of next steps for all of us.

We will meet at the Family Life Center at North Side Baptist Church on Thursday, November 13th from 6:30-8:00.

Help us provide homes for hope.

Apple Terms & Conditions

This is funny!  Thanks for Ruthie and Carrie for sending it my way! It reads: ADAM & EVE THE FIRST PEOPLE TO NOT READ THE APPLE TERMS & CONDITIONS

We Cannot Teach Our Children Something We Have Not Learned Ourselves

It was a joy to preach last night to the wonderful family at Wellford Baptist Church.  They put on the Deuteronomy 6 Conference focusing on the family.  It was a great time in worship and a great time afterwards just sharing with all the great people there. We talked about the need for family discipleship. The problem for many churches …

Incredible services today.  I don’t know all the causes, but we had a bunch of new faces around North Side today.  I know some were people who came back after the Fall Festival on Friday, so that is great news!  But there were so many people and new faces and I pray that we can help you get connected to …

Why I Don’t Drink Alcohol (Even Though I Probably Could)

One of the most debated issues in Christianity concerning freedom is that of social drinking.  Denominations differ.  Backgrounds divide.  Experiences direct.  When most pastors communicate to students concerning the sins to abstain from in America, the list normally starts with premarital sex, drinking, and smoking. These are areas which the Bible actually does address, but few ministers ever mention the …

Read the following statements without the help of a Bible and decide whether or not Jesus actually said them.  The answers will be below. Let the dead bury their own dead. Anyone who says, “You fool!” …

No Coveting

We finished up the 10 Commandments today in our “Exodus” study.  As we approached the “No Coveting” service, I prayed about how to lead worship in light of this command.  I thought about how I fight against a consumeristic tendency in my heart and how I try to steer that away for others.  As a result of that, I decided …

Stop Saying “Judge Not”

I have a pet peeve. It bothers me when people use Scripture out of context to advance their agenda. Satan was the originator of that method (Luke 4:9-11) and people still do it today.  Some people do it out of ignorance, and some do it in order to deceive. I have actually always wanted to do an entire sermon series on …

We continued through our Exodus series and made it to commandment #9 this week: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.  -Exodus 20:16 Since I was out-of-town for practice, I sat out this week and got to be led by an incredible group of worship leaders.  They didn’t need me up there a bit!  The gang did a …

Your Children Know What You Love the Most

I believe children of every age know what it is that their parents love.  Whether it’s somebody or something, our words and our actions declare those things that have our hearts.  They are observant enough to see what it is that wakes us up in the morning and lingers on our minds until we drift to sleep.  As your children …

If You Love Me, You Will…

In the area of purity, I have often hear of a couple who say that they messed up physically.  Things got out of hand and they went further sexually than they say they intended. Their standard was not holiness, and they went too far, and a lot of those encounters are based upon a boyfriend or girlfriend saying, “If you …

Build Your Kingdom Here

Our church loved singing this song at the Gathering this week.  “Build Your Kingdom Here” is a great song by Rend Collective.

Lyrics

Come set Your rule and reign
In our hearts again
Increase in us we pray
Unveil why we’re made
Come set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your Church
We need Your power
In us

We seek Your kingdom first
We hunger and we thirst
Refuse to waste our lives
For You’re our joy and prize
To see the captive hearts released
The hurt; the sick; the poor at peace
We lay down our lives for Heaven’s cause
We are Your church
We pray revive
This earth

Build Your kingdom here
Let the darkness fear
Show Your mighty hand
Heal our streets and land
Set Your church on fire
Win this nation back
Change the atmosphere
Build Your kingdom here
We pray

Unleash Your kingdom’s power
Reaching the near and far
No force of hell can stop
Your beauty changing hearts
You made us for much more than this
Awake the kingdom seed in us
Fill us with the strength and love of Christ
We are Your church
We are the hope
On earth

Thou Shalt Not Steal Unless…

Kansas City churches are getting excited concerning the Royals in the playoffs.  So much so that they are allowing Billy Butler to break the 8th commandment. Such great timing as we are getting ready to talk about this on Sunday!
