Marriage by the Book Recap

As I woke up this morning, I thought that the “Marriage by the Book” series was what we have been looking for as a church.  Not only was the content right on, but the whole effort was so quality due to God’s leading and his servants responding.  We did pray that some marriages would be saved through this series.  I …

The Most Important and Often Neglected Message to Deliver to Teenagers

I spoke at Greenwood Christian School this morning.  This is their Spring spiritual emphasis week, so I will also speak on Friday.  This morning, I spoke on what I considered the most important and often neglected message to deliver to teenagers: honor your father and mother. This message isn’t ever preached in churches to teenagers.  In an ideal world, parents …

How to Change Your Husband

On Sunday, we had week 2 of our Marriage by the Book series as we tackled the topic: “How to Change Your Husband.” Ladies, rise up. We did see a whole lot of ladies on Sunday.  I think the way Jeff handled the topic was great.  While our culture has distorted Scripture’s teachings on a woman’s role, what submission means, …

How to Avoid Ministerial Burnout

God has blessed me with many positive male ministerial mentors in my life.  Through their example, I have learned what it means to be a husband, father, and pastor.  With so many negative examples of ministers, certain men’s faithfulness to Jesus and to their family have kept me encouraged and hopeful.  From these men, I have learned to seek balance …

Test, Funeral, and Fusion (Oh, my!)

What a Tuesday!  And that is an understatement if I’ve ever muttered one. After giving a quick test for my religion class, I hurried over to the funeral home to conduct the funeral for my grandmother.  I was so honored to have so many family and friends present in honor of my grandmother. In my message at the funeral, I …

Gone to Be With Jesus

I woke up a little after 3:00 Sunday morning.  When I knew I couldn’t get back to sleep, I went into the living room to read the Bible and do some work.   A little later, I got the call that my grandmother passed away Sunday morning.  She passed away sometime after 3AM peacefully in her sleep at the Hospice House. …

“I Love You More Today Than Yesterday” (1st Date Night is a Wrap)

The first Date Night is officially a wrap.  I don’t know about you, but I had a blast.  I haven’t gotten the final count, but we were blown away to have somewhere around 250 couples show up last night.  As Amanda and I were sitting together during the message, I grabbed her hand, and said, “What would happen to this …

The Difference Between Organization and Discipline

A couple of years ago, I read a line in a book called Big Idea by Dave Ferguson.  In this book, he lays out how his staff handles a logistical nightmare in how they plan.  The way their church organizes around one thought and gets so much accomplished requires a ton of work.  When I read it, I was a …

So Much to Be Thankful For…

In a time when our world is frantically grasping for the things slipping away and obsessively thinking of what they don’t have, I am truly thankful today for what God has already given me.  If I never received anything else at all, I am spoiled rotten. This is a good Thanksgiving.

New Game

I don’t know why Obie loves this new game so much.  He flips a bib or a blanket over his face, he can’ t get it off, but he just kicks and howls in the process.  He has so much fun, and I laugh my head off at him. Man, I love being a dad.

Over 4 Months?!

Yes, it’s crazy to think that Obadiah is already over 4 months.  Here are some pictures for you to enjoy!

Crisis of Belief

Another great Sunday today.  We have one more week of Experiencing God after today, and this series has been huge in the life of our church.  Each week, I hear more and more of all that God has been doing in the lives of people at North Side.  People are truly living with their eyes wide open and God is …

Project Rationale #1

Why I am doing this doctoral project?  Rationale #1: Above any other notable rationale behind this project, the greatest reasoning behind equipping parents to be the primary evangelists in their children’s lives is because the Bible commands it. The biblical mandate for a child’s spiritual development is unashamedly centered around the home. The family’s role in the spiritual rearing of …
